The Shimmering Beauty of Mehndi

Mehndi has a major role to play in most of Indian celebrations. And wedding is one the biggest occasions in one’s life. In fact, just a day before the marriage there is a celebration called Mehndi-ki-raat. Every woman is different in her own way, her taste in food, music, clothes etc. Mehndi designs range from simple veils to extravagant intricate designs. Mehndi is a very important part of the wedding for women, and they should explore their tastes in designs and patterns.
From traditional designs to very hip and modern designs, depending on your taste, mehndi is an art form to explore.

What is mehndi and use of mehndi.

There are many different styles of mehndi, depending on the cultural background they come from. The most famous ones are Arbi, Pakistani, African, and Indian. These designs are particularly easy to distinguish from others. Here's why:
Arbi mehndi - This style tends to be less detailed and intricate. Don't get me wrong, its still very beautiful. Instead of having fill-ins it is just colored in boldly. Arbi designs don't necessarily cover your hands or feet all the way. They tend to be "kula kula" which means open or flowing. Many popular Arbi designs are vines and leaves with beautiful flowers. This makes it an excellent and perfect candidate, if you want to have a bail going down your arm or leg.
Pakistani Mehndi - This one is one of my all time favorites. It is the most detailed and intricate, as well as, the most time consuming and exhausting design to produce for the artist. Pakistani Mehndi is known for it's detailed and fine fill-ins. If you really want to question an artist's abilities, ask them to produce an incredibly beautiful Pakistani design. Of course it is really expensive, but it's worth every penny. These designs are famous for being modeled by dhulanain (Pakistani brides), as well as close female family members and friends. Completing ONE SIDE of A HAND may take 2 hours at the MINIMUM.
African mehndi - This style is mainly bold. No fine lines or fill-in are used but it's still extremely different from Arbi mehndi. How, you ask? Well these designs consist of geometric shapes and figures, also many lines and dots. It is very simple, but very pretty.
Indian mehndi - Indian mehndi - The most famous design for Indian mehndi is a big dot or figure in the middle of the palm, with finger tips colored completely. How did this style become so famous??

Note: NEVER USE BLACK HENNA
please stay away from this dangerous substance!!!!

There is also something called black mehndi or black henna. It is grown ONLY for the purpose of dying hair and will leave a grey ashe colored stain on your skin. It contains harmful PPDs (that are banned from many areas around the world, but still available) and may cause respiratory failure and other medical problems. I beg you not to use this, because I have seen the effects of its evil wrath. Some of my friends were getting ready for a party and decided to try this crazy substance. It LITERALLY ate away at their skin. It was disgusting. SO PLEASE NEVER TRY BLACK HENNA!! Also, understand that mehndi and black Mehndi are two entirely different things. One of them can be dangerous if you are allergic to it (black henna) and the other is safe and health promoting (henna). When I say health promoting. I mean that it is known to be good for your hair and skin.
